Fake follower checker: how many of those followers actually exist?

This free fake follower checker scores any Instagram, YouTube, X, TikTok or Facebook account out of 100 for audience authenticity, and estimates how many of its followers are real. No login, nothing saved. Paste in public numbers — followers, average likes, average comments — and if someone has quoted you a price, it will tell you how much of that price is buying nothing at all.

Add more signals raises confidence

Every number you add turns on another check. Leave them blank and we simply say so instead of guessing.

Only the follower count is required. Add more numbers and the confidence figure climbs — we would rather tell you what we couldn't check than pretend we checked it.

How to check fake followers on Instagram — and what the number actually means

Somewhere in India right now, a brand is about to pay ₹40,000 for a reel to an account where roughly half the audience is a server in a country nobody in the campaign brief has ever mentioned. Nobody in that conversation is lying. The brand looked at a follower count, the creator looked at the same follower count, and the follower count was true. It just wasn't useful.

That gap is what a fake follower checker exists to close. This one is free, works without a login, and covers Instagram, YouTube, X, TikTok and Facebook. You enter public numbers — followers, average likes, average comments — and it returns an authenticity score out of 100, an estimated range of real followers, and a breakdown of every signal that moved the number.

Start here: nobody can see inside your follower list

This matters more than anything else on the page, so we'll say it before the good bits. No tool can tell you which specific followers are bots. Instagram does not publish that. Neither does YouTube, X, TikTok or Facebook. Every fake follower checker on the market — the free ones, and the ones charging you ₹8,000 a month — is an inference engine over public metrics. They look at the outside of the account and reason about the inside.

Some of them hide that behind a confident-looking dial. We'd rather show you the eight things we looked at, what each one said, and how much of the score it was allowed to move. If a checker gives you a number without evidence, you are not being given an audit. You are being given a vibe with a percentage sign after it.

The eight signals, and what each one catches

Weights add to 100. Any signal you don't provide data for is switched off entirely rather than guessed at, and the confidence figure drops to match.

How the PRsathi authenticity score is built
SignalWeightWhat it catches
Engagement rate vs your tier22The headline check. Bought followers don't like anything, so the rate collapses below what accounts your size normally earn.
Comments per 100 likes16Likes are cheap and comments are expensive. Buy the first without the second and the ratio goes somewhere no real account goes.
Engagement consistency12The sharpest tell we have. Real posts vary wildly. A purchased package delivers the same number every time, and the flatness is the fingerprint.
Growth spikes and zero churn18Ten thousand followers on a Tuesday, and never a day where the count goes down. Real accounts lose followers constantly. Bought ones don't leave.
Audience geography10An account posting Hindi content about Lucknow that is 40% Indonesia has a story to tell.
Follow ratio8Following 7,000 to be followed by 9,000 is not influence, it's a trade.
Growth vs account age8Some accounts genuinely explode. Most eleven-month-old accounts with 300K followers didn't.
Posting cadence6A large audience attached to an account that has posted four times in a year.

What is a good engagement rate in India?

Almost every "good engagement rate" figure you'll find online is a global average, and using a global average on an Indian account will mislead you in both directions. Rates fall as accounts grow — this is normal, mathematical, and not a sign that anything is wrong. A 3% rate is unremarkable for a nano creator and genuinely excellent for an account with a million followers.

These are the bands this tool scores against, tuned for the Indian market:

Instagram engagement rate benchmarks by tier — India
TierFollowersInvestigate belowTypicalUnusually high above
Nanounder 10K2.5%6.0%14%
Micro10K – 50K1.8%4.0%9%
Mid50K – 250K1.2%2.8%6%
Macro250K – 1M0.8%1.9%4%
Mega1M+0.5%1.3%3%

Yes, the ceiling is a flag too. This surprises people. Engagement that sits far above your tier is usually one of three things: a genuinely viral month, an engagement pod, or a giveaway that pulled in people who will never look at you again. Only one of those is worth paying for. We penalise a low rate hard and a high rate gently, because real virality does exist — but a permanently sky-high rate is not a flex, it's a question.

How to spot fake followers manually, in about ninety seconds

You don't strictly need a tool. If you want to sanity-check an account before a meeting:

  1. Read the comments. Not the count — the comments. "Nice pic 🔥🔥", "amazing dear", and four fire emojis from accounts with no profile photo is a pattern you'll recognise within a week of looking for it.
  2. Compare views to followers on reels. Bought followers don't watch anything. An account with 200K followers averaging 4,000 views is telling you something quite loudly.
  3. Scroll the tagged tab. Real creators get tagged by real people. It's hard to fake and almost nobody bothers.
  4. Check whether the numbers ever go down. Real follower counts wobble daily. A line that only goes up is not a line, it's a purchase.
  5. Look at the story views. Ask for a screenshot. Story views are much harder to inflate than followers, and the ratio between them is revealing.

Then run the numbers here to put a figure on it.

If you're a brand: the score is a price, not a verdict

The useful output of an audit isn't "this creator is bad". It's arithmetic. If someone quotes you ₹40,000 and roughly 35% of their audience isn't real, you're being asked to pay about ₹14,000 for nothing. That's not a reason to walk away — it's a reason to negotiate to ₹26,000, or to ask for the story-view screenshots first.

Which is why this tool never gives you a reject button. It gives you the questions to ask, and hands you over to the influencer fee calculator to work out what the audience that is real should actually cost. Fraud screening has become a standard step for Indian brands before releasing budget, and rightly so — but screening is the start of a conversation, not the end of one.

If you're a creator: run this on yourself before a brand does

Two reasons, and the second is the one people miss.

First, you may have bought followers years ago, or been gifted a few thousand by a growth service you tried for a month in 2022, and it is quietly costing you deals right now. Better to find out from a page than from a brand that stops replying.

Second, and more usefully: a clean score is a sales asset. A 91 out of 100 with the signals shown is a far stronger pitch than a follower count, especially if you're a micro creator competing against someone four times your size. It reframes the conversation from "how big are you" to "how real are you", which is a conversation you win. Save the card, put it in your media kit, send it before they ask.

What this tool will not do

  • It won't ask for your password, and it won't ask you to log in with Instagram. There's no OAuth, no connection, no permissions screen. You type numbers in. Nothing about your account is at risk because nothing about your account is touched.
  • It won't publish a score about a named person. Audits of accounts other than your own stay in your browser session, aren't saved, and can't be turned into a shareable card. We're not building a wall of shame, and the heuristics aren't certain enough to justify one.
  • It won't scrape anything. No automated collection, nothing that breaches a platform's terms of service.
  • It won't pretend to certainty it doesn't have. The score is capped at 97, you get a confidence figure, and you get a list of every check it couldn't run.

Questions people actually ask

Is this fake follower checker free?
Yes. No login, no card, no trial. You type the numbers, you get the score. We do not gate the result behind a signup because a result you cannot see is not a result.
How accurate is a fake follower checker?
No tool on the market can tell you which individual followers are bots, because no platform publishes follower-by-follower data. Every checker, including the paid ones, is an inference engine over public metrics. Ours runs eight signals and shows you the evidence behind each deduction instead of issuing a verdict on a person. Treat the score as a reason to ask better questions, not as proof.
What is a good engagement rate on Instagram in India?
It depends entirely on account size. Under 10,000 followers, a typical Indian account sits near 6% and anything under 2.5% is worth investigating. At 10,000–50,000 the typical figure is about 4%. At 50,000–250,000 it is about 2.8%. Above a million, 1.3% is normal and healthy. A 500,000-follower account with 8% engagement is not impressive, it is unusual, and unusual is what this tool is built to flag.
Can I check someone else's account for fake followers?
Yes, and brands should before paying anyone. Enter their public follower count and average likes and comments. Results for accounts other than your own stay private in your session, are not saved, and cannot be shared as a card. We will not publish a score about a named person, and neither should you.
Do I have to connect my Instagram account?
No. There is no login and no OAuth. You type public numbers in yourself. That means no password to hand over, no risk to your account, and nothing that breaks Instagram's terms of service.
Why does my engagement rate being too high count against me?
Because bought engagement overshoots. Sellers deliver likes in round numbers that land well above what an account that size normally earns, and engagement pods and giveaway loops do the same thing. A genuinely viral month will also push you over the ceiling, which is why we penalise a high rate gently and a suspiciously low one hard.
How many fake followers is too many?
Every account has some. Instagram itself creates ghost followers as people abandon accounts, so 5–15% inactive is normal and not a red flag. Above roughly 30% you are paying for reach that does not exist. Above 50% the follower count is decoration.
Which platforms does this work for?
Instagram, YouTube, X, TikTok and Facebook. YouTube is scored against views rather than subscribers, because a subscriber count on YouTube has meant very little for years.

The audit is the easy part. Getting paid is the rest.
